Exeter Cathedral approached Delphis Eco to look at their cleaning products in an effort to ‘go green’ and also to look at their cleaning regime in order to simplify the product range and to help train staff. The Cathedral is one of the main attractions in Exeter with areas dating back to Norman times, it is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture, which fills the senses with an array of stone, glass, embroidery and wood.
Due to the make up of such an historic building and the high number of visitors each year, cleaning and maintaining the Cathedral can be a challenge.
Delphis Eco started by looking at the current chemical range, reducing the number of products and then trialing in specific areas. Problem areas such as the public toilets were given a deep clean and training was provided on best practice for maintaining these areas. All cleaning staff and the Vergers team were trained in using all the products across the different areas of the Cathedral. These areas are as follows:
• Cathedral all general areas, stone floors, sinks, toilets, electrical light fittings, etc.
• general visitors toilets and communal areas including floors.
• offices (carpeted and vinyl floor areas) desks, windows, skirting, painted surfaces, etc.
The trial was deemed a great success and Delphis Eco products are being used throughout Exeter Cathedral. The benefits are:
• reduced environmental impact
• range reduction
• reduced storage
• simpler cleaning regime
• better results
• cost reductions
Michael Greaves, Head Verger of Exeter Cathedral...
“The new product credentials are excellent. God calls us to care for planet earth and I would encourage other churches to follow suit.”
