Our recent study, conducted by Ellie Meredith, sheds light on the concerns and actions of today's youth regarding plastic waste. The survey targeted children and young adults between 9 – 18 years of age and aimed to understand their perspectives on plastic pollution and their willingness to make a difference.  Plastic pollution is a growing concern for the younger generation, with alarming statistics revealing their worries about plastic ending up in our oceans. Our recent survey revealed 77% of youngsters expressed their deep concern about this issue. Moreover, a significant 74% believed that products are unnecessarily overpackaged. However, there is hope on the horizon, as a substantial portion of these young activists demonstrated a strong willingness to embrace the challenge of going plastic-free during July. In this blog post, we will explore the inspiring ways in which children actively support their ideals and drive positive change to combat plastic waste.

A Generation Determined to Make a Difference: The survey revealed that 60% of respondents expressed confidence in their ability to go plastic-free for July, while an additional 33% expressed a willingness to make an effort. This enthusiastic response reflects youngsters' growing awareness and determination to tackle the plastic waste crisis head-on.

Recycling as a Family Commitment: An encouraging 95% of surveyed youngsters stated that recycling is taken seriously within their households. This strong family commitment to recycling demonstrates the collective effort to minimise waste and nurture a sustainable mindset from an early age.

Children Driving Change Through Everyday Actions: Young people are taking matters into their own hands and actively seeking ways to support their ideals. Shopping for refills, recycling diligently, advocating for the use of non-toxic chemicals in homes and gardens, and making eco-swaps whenever possible are just a few examples of children's actions to reduce plastic waste in their daily lives.
